ABOUT FURTHER NORTH
We are all about locally made objects. We like to
keep things close to home & simple, and if the material comes from our nearest surroundings, even better. We depend on the skills of local producers, in the making of our line of home accessories by Further North. That is very important to us, because who can appreciate the delicacy and fine quality of the raw materials,
if not the people who work with them everyday. We couldn’t think of better collaborators.
That is why all of our products are created & produced in Iceland by highly skilled artisans.
PRODUCT & PROCESS
Further North pillows are made of the finest quality sheepskin from Iceland. The sheepskins are tanned & colored in the north of the island
in a modern tanning factory located in the village of Sauðárkrókur. For many decades this factory has been the main tanning facility in Iceland and is internationally known for the quality of their work.
The tanning of the skins for our product utilizes sustainable energy; taking advantage of Iceland's natural geothermal heat , considered to be an efficient, environmentally friendly, and renewable resource. This minimizes the energy consumption that is normally very high, when it comes to tanning skins. In addition all electricity for the production comes from a hydroelectric power station.
All the skins are specially tanned and colored for Further North.

The mirror and the cork board are, as the pillows, hand made & crafted in Iceland, with the utmost care, where again, the natural elements of the materials used are allowed to shine.
